Missing Dog Found In California, Reunited With Family In Arkansas

 A family in Rogers will be reunited with their lost dog Tuesday night, after spending two months apart. The eight year old Pomeranian, Koda, is arriving in Arkansas from San Diego, California.

The dog was brought to the Department of Animal Service’s attention and scanned for identification. His microchip identified him as an Arkansas native and a San Diego-based non profit offered to pay for his trip home.

Daniel DeSoussa, County of San Diego Animal Services Deputy Director says preparing for situations like these are important.

Organizers Prepare For Little Rock Marathon Training Sessions

The 2014 Little Rock Marathon

The 2014 Little Rock Marathon is over seven months away, but organizers say now is the time for participants to prepare for race day. 

Geneva Hampton is the marathon’s executive director. She says informational meetings over the next few weeks will ensure people are ready for training programs.

Arkansas Lawmaker: No Updates About Legislative Office

A Democratic state senator who was fined and reprimanded by an Arkansas ethics panel says he doesn't have any updates about his intentions at the Legislature.

Sen. Paul Bookout of Jonesboro said in an email to The Associated Press on Tuesday that he resigned from his position with St. Bernards Healthcare on Monday because he felt it was best for both him and the hospital.

Chaffee Crossing Touted As Site For Veterans Home

Leaders in Fort Smith are pitching their city as a "perfect fit" for the state's new veterans home.

Earlier this month, the Arkansas Veterans Home Task Force identified Fort Smith, Benton, Jacksonville and Russellville as potential sites for the $22 million veterans home.

On Monday, representatives from the task force toured Fort Smith's proposed site at Chaffee Crossing.

The Southwest Times Record reports the 25-acre site is next to the planned Interstate 49 route and adjacent to Camp Hope for Heroes, a service facility for veterans.

Arkansas AG Rejects Wording Of Arkansas Marijuana Proposal

Attorney General Dustin McDaniel has rejected a request to certify the popular name and ballot title of a proposed constitutional amendment that calls for repealing the prohibition of cannabis in Arkansas.

McDaniel rejected the request from Lt. Col. Marjorie LeClair in an opinion on Monday because he said there were ambiguities in the text.

The proposed measure must be certified by McDaniel before LeClair could begin gathering signatures in an effort to qualify for a spot on the 2014 ballot.

Walton Family Gives $2 Million To U.S. Marshals Museum In Arkansas

The U.S. Marshals Museum planned for Fort Smith has received a $2 million grant from the Walton Family Foundation.

The $50 million museum plans to break ground Sept. 24, 2014 - the 225th anniversary of when President George Washington established the marshals.

A commemorative coin honoring marshals will also go on sale then, too. Organizers said last month they expect coin sales to bring in $5 million.

Special Prosecutor Sought To Review Lawmaker's Case

A prosecutor in northeast Arkansas is calling for a special prosecutor to review an ethics panel's findings about a Democratic state senator.

The Arkansas Ethics Commission on Friday fined Sen. Paul Bookout $8,000 and reprimanded him after finding out that he spent thousands of dollars in campaign funds on women's clothing, a home theater and other personal items last year.

Prosecutor Scott Ellington on Monday called for a special prosecutor to be appointed to review the commission's findings and determine whether there should be a criminal investigation.

Republican Tommy Moll Enters Race For Arkansas' 4th District

A Hot Springs businessman has joined the race to replace Republican U.S. Rep. Tom Cotton in Arkansas' 4th District.

Tommy Moll announced Monday he is running as a Republican and wants to focus on jobs and the economy in his campaign.

Lt. Gov. Mark Darr and state House Majority Leader Bruce Westerman have already announced they're seeking the GOP nomination for the seat.

Janis Percefull, a community college instructor from Hot Springs, is the only announced Democratic candidate for the 4th District.

Arkansas Unemployment Rate Up To 7.4 Percent

There has been a slight increase in the state’s unemployment rate, according to officials with the Arkansas Department of Workforce Services. The jobless rate for July was up one-tenth of a percentage point to 7.4 percent. 

Bernadette Coleman is the Bureau of Labor Statistics manager with the department. She says the small hike is partially due to seasonal factors.

"The summer has something to do with it. One thing I particularly think about is the school situation, because schools are still out in July… so the summertime does make a difference,” said Coleman.

McDaniel & Griffin Guests On NPR's Diane Rehm Show Discussing Mayflower Oil Spill

Arkansas Attorney General Dustin McDaniel says more legal action will be coming from the state concerning the oil spill in Mayflower.

Monday McDaniel and Congressman Tim Griffin were guests on NPR’s Diane Rehm Show discussing pipeline safety.  You can listen to the full hour at this link.  McDaniel's segment begins about 13 minutes into the program.  Griffin calls in toward the end of the show.
