The Expansion Of Custom Aircraft Cabinets Creates 150 New Jobs

A Sherwood-based company that makes furnishings for airplanes on Wednesday opened a new facility.

It is also expanding its workforce, creating 150 additional jobs.

KUAR’s Kezia Nanda was at the grand opening. You can listen to her report above.

A large crowd was on hand as Custom Aircraft Cabinets opened the new facility on Landers Road, the building which had previously housed a National Home Center.

Mike Gueringer co-founded the company, which makes cabinetry and upholstery for aircraft, 24 years ago in North Little Rock.

Proposed Steel Mill Would Create 525 Jobs in East Arkansas

A major new employer will be coming to east Arkansas IF the legislature approves start-up funding for the project.

Governor Mike Beebe announced Tuesday that a much talked about super-project involves a steel mill in Osceola.

"It is a $1.1 billion investment.  It is 525 direct, immediate jobs with an average salary of $75,000 a piece," Gov. Beebe said to applause in a packed conference room at the Capitol.

About 2,000 temporary construction jobs would also be created as the mill is being built.

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, who is considered a possible candidate for President in 2016, is the headliner of the School Choice reform rally and summit on Tuesday.

In conjunction with National School Choice Week, activists are pushing for a policy reform on the state’s education system.

Laurie Lee is the Executive Director of the Arkansas Reform Alliance said Arkansas can learn from Florida’s education system which Jeb Bush implemented.

McDaniel Out, Halter In Race For Ark. Governor

  Arkansas Attorney General Dustin McDaniel, a Democrat, officially ended his bid to become the state's next Governor on Friday. In a message to supporters, McDaniel said he is proud of his record in the legislature and as AG, but now believes he would have a tough time winning the 2014 gubernatorial race.

"I am now convinced that if I run for Governor, this campaign would be about me personally, rather than Arkansas's future,” said McDaniel.

Blair Center And Clinton School Release New National Poll

Results from a nonpartisan academic poll, conducted by the Diane Blair Center at the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville and the Clinton School of Public Service in Little Rock, provide new details on the changing social and political views of many Americans.

Over 3,600 people participated in the national survey that was conducted over 10 days right after the 2012 election.

Former Pres. Clinton To Headline Fundraiser For Sen. Mark Pryor

The kickoff for Senator Mark Pryor’s re-election campaign is set for March 16th.

Former President Clinton is among political leaders expected to take part in the event in Little Rock.

Although the election is still a year and a half away, Pryor Campaign Manager Jeff Weaver said it is necessary to start early.

“You hate to start raising money this early, but you kind of have to. These races are very expensive to run,” said Weaver.

Former House Speaker Appointed To The Ark. Highway Commission

A former state lawmaker, who has led efforts concerning state highways in previous years, was appointed Thursday to the Arkansas Highway Commission.

Former House Speaker Robert Moore was named to a 10-year term, replacing commission Chairman Madison Murphy, whose term is expiring.

Moore said he realizes the significance and challenges of maintaining good highways and will look for innovative new ways to meet the challenges of funding needed work.

This week marks the one-month anniversary of the school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut.

As we remember that incident, KUAR's Karen Tricot Steward looks back to a school shooting that happened in central Arkansas in 1974 and talks to three people who remember that day.

Two of them, Bob Williams and Wendy Efird, were students at Booker Junior High in Little Rock where the shooting occured and the third, Judy Drummond Covert, was a student at nearby Mann Junior High.

Session To Train Arkansans To Respond To Mass Shootings

The owner of a central Arkansas gun range is hoping to educate people on how to respond if they find themselves in a mass shooting.

Retired Army Lt. Colonel and former high school teacher Ed Monk hosted the free presentation.

Speaking to a small group of concerned citizens, including those who own guns and those who don't, he spoke about people needing to prepare themselves in the event of a shooting in a place like a school or church.
