Illustrator Gaby D'Alessandro has loved radio since childhood. At age six, she started her own radio show using a Fisher-Price tape recorder and cassettes that she gave to her friends and family.

And when she moved from the Dominican Republic to New York City, where she was one of eight million residents, D'Alessandro rediscovered her love for radio. NPR and Member Station WNYC offered "great company" and a connection to her new home.

It provides instrumental services to staff from research and training, to developing massive music and radio story databases, to preserving and digitizing NPR's huge collection of audio.

Originally published on Wed August 21, 2013 1:08 pm

Over the course of around 100 years now, one simple article of clothing has allowed people to make big statements – whether it be about their personal style or society.

In a way, NPR has become kind of like a t-shirt. We've transcended just being a news service to become an organization listeners identify with as a way to describe themselves to others.

So, it's fitting that NPR is teaming up with you, our devoted listeners, and the online design community at Threadless, to create the ultimate NPR t-shirt.

Originally published on Tue October 1, 2013 11:52 am

If we've learned one thing this summer it is that NPR listeners sure love their dogs. But what about our feline friends? Aren't they equally deserving of the limelight?

"Living in Baltimore, I walk everywhere I go. I love having access to information and entertainment right in my pocket. Lonely walks become a time to cherish and look forward to, even on the dreariest days."

Outside The Box: Welcome To The New NPR Home Page

NPR

Originally published on Thu August 15, 2013 1:21 pm

We have more to tell you.

If you're wondering, that's why we redesigned and launched a new NPR home page today. We have stories that need more space to breathe, and you deserve a more vivid picture of the world.

We liked our old home pages, on desktop and mobile, and those pages worked well. But they had their limitations. On desktops and tablets, our old newspaper-like design told you our seriousness of purpose and conveyed the range of our news and cultural sections.
