The KUAR news staff won 10 awards from the Arkansas Associated Press Broadcasters Association Friday, including five first place honors. The annual competition is for reporting done during 2015 and is open to AP member stations around the state. The awards were handed out during a luncheon at Little Rock's Loca Luna.

Arkansas Business' Kyle Massey recently visited the KUAR station to interview Managing Editor Bobby Ampezzan and Partner Manager Vanessa McKuin about the new Regional Journalism Collaborative, Arkansas Public Media. Arkansas Public Media reporting is funded in part through a grant from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

After 12 years as host of Morning Edition, Renee Montagne is stepping back from hosting to focus on more long-form reporting – reporting that is essential to the future of NPR across platforms. She'll be trading her very early mornings at NPR West for an expanded role as Special Correspondent this November, after the presidential elections.

KUAR 89.1 is excited to present NPR's Ask Me Another, Saturday mornings at 11am beginning July 2. Replacing Michael Feldman's Whad'ya Know? which ended its 31-year run June 25, Ask Me Another is sure to be a fun addition to the Saturday morning line up on UALR Public Radio.

KUAR is proud to have received two first place awards from the national industry group Public Radio News Directors Incorporated. They were handed out Saturday during PRNDI's annual conference for newsroom leaders, held this year in St. Louis, Missouri.

Remembering David Gilkey and Zabihullah Tamanna

The NPR family suffered an unimaginable loss on Sunday, June 5. David Gilkey, an NPR photo journalist was killed in Afghanistan along with NPR's Afghan interpreter and fellow journalist Zabihullah Tamanna. KUAR 89.1, UALR’s public radio station, and its partners in a regional journalism collaboration, are pleased to announce Vanessa McKuin will join the newly created Natural State News team as the project’s partner manager.


In her new role, McKuin will promote the project throughout the state, secure funding to sustain the collaboration, and manage the administration of initial funding from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
