Oscar de la Renta To Join Clintons In Arkansas

Oscar de la Renta is coming to Arkansas. The fashion designer is expected to meet with the Clinton clan, including former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, on Monday in Little Rock.

A temporary exhibit showcasing some of de la Renta's creations is on display at the William J. Clinton Presidential Center.

The exhibit features more than 30 of the designer's creations, including pieces worn by Hollywood stars and first ladies.

The "Oscar de la Renta: American Icon" exhibit is on display at the Clinton library until Dec. 1.

Much Of Arkansas At Moderate Risk For Wildfires

The Arkansas Forestry Commission says much of the state is at moderate risk for wildfires as Arkansas dries out from recent rainy weather.

The commission says the moderate risk area covers northern, southern and central Arkansas. Western Arkansas and eastern Arkansas are at a low risk for wildfire danger.

Hillary Clinton To Come To Little Rock For New Children’s Library

Former Secretary of State and First Lady Hillary Clinton is back in Little Rock for Monday’s dedication of the new children’s library, which is being named in her honor.

The Board of Trustees for the Central Arkansas Library System voted June 27th to honor Mrs. Clinton for her service to children.

“I think she’s done so much over the decades really working with children, particularly starting in Arkansas, even before she was first lady,” said CALS Director Bobby Roberts.

Farmers Must Certify Crops To Be Eligible For Disaster Programs

The head of the small farm program at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff says farmers need to certify crops planted in the spring by July 15th in order to be eligible for disaster programs. 

Crops that should be certified include corn, cotton, grain sorghum, soybeans and rice.

Commercial vegetables, including okra, cucumbers, watermelons, squash, southern peas and sweet potatoes should be certified too. 

Many Farm Service Agency programs require that cropland on a farm be certified to earn FSA benefits.

Arkansas Shelter Rebate Program To Accept Applications

The Arkansas Department of Emergency Management Shelter Rebate Program will begin accepting applications this month.

To be eligible for the program, the agency says people have to have installed an above-ground safe room or in-ground shelter after Jan. 21, 1999.

Applicants also must own their home at the time of their application.

The Department of Emergency Management says it will reimburse people for some of the costs associated with above-ground safe rooms or in-ground shelter installation.

Metropolitan National Bank To Be Acquired, Recapitalized

Metropolitan National Bank is expected to be acquired by a limited liability company tied to Dallas billionaire banker, Gerald L. Ford.

According to Metropolitan’s CEO Lunsford Bridges, the privately-held Little Rock bank will change ownership after a Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceeding of its current shareholder group, Rogers Bancshares. Rogers Bancshares was the holding company for the bank under the leadership of businessman Doyle Rogers, who died in February at the age of 94.

Parents Plan For School Transfer Requests

Six Arkansas families will address the Board of Education on Monday to request that children be transferred out of their home school districts.

The appeals are being made by parents in the Forrest City School District, whose arguments will be heard as part of the Arkansas Public School Choice Act. The legislation, signed into law in late April, allows students to transfer out of residential school districts, but education systems may deny requests if acceptance requires a physical expansion or hiring of additional faculty.

2 Arkansas Brothers Get Release Prior To Meth Trial

Two brothers from Little River County accused of selling $36,000 worth of methamphetamine to an undercover agent have been given their release pending trial.

A federal judge in Texarkana on Wednesday set a variety of conditions before telling 30-year-old Kevin Baker and 28-year-old Ronnie Walton they didn't have to remain incarcerated.

The men allegedly sold the methamphetamine to an undercover drug task force agent in 2010 but weren't arrested until last month.
