75 kids from around Central Arkansas are volunteering their time in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

The Mosaic Templars Cultural Center hosts an annual “MLK Challenge”, teaching kids about the legacy of Dr. King’s service, as well as the work of many others.

The children, ages 12 to 18, volunteer with eight different sites around Little Rock, including the Dream Center and the Rice Depot.

Little Rock School District Superintendent Dexter Suggs will serve as the grand marshal in an annual event honoring the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. 

A march-parade, or marade, will take place at 10 a.m. Monday in Little Rock. The marade begins at 33rd and Chester streets and ends at the Arkansas State Capitol, where a commemorative ceremony is scheduled to begin at noon. 

The event is sponsored by the Arkansas NAACP.

The attorney general's office is cautioning residents this tax season to watch out for rapid tax loans or rapid refunds. Sarah Tucker, the Senior Assistant Attorney General said consumers should be aware of bad deals getting refunds from some services.

“Rapid refunds might sound very attractive but if you obtain a rapid refund, whether it's through a refund anticipation check or perhaps your tax preparer is going to give you a debit card, you actually are going to be paying a lot of fees that you wouldn't otherwise pay and you're just borrowing your own money,” said Tucker.

A sentencing date has been set in Arkansas for the Oklahoma woman responsible for the theft of five horses from the Southern Arkansas University rodeo team stables in Magnolia last year.

21 year old Jaci Rae Jackson is to be sentenced in Columbia County Circuit Court on February 6th.

Prosecutors say she faces up to 30 years in prison in Arkansas and up to 25 years in Oklahoma.

The National Weather Service said the danger of fire is elevated across much of Arkansas because of windy conditions and low humidity and burn bans remain in effect in three counties.

The weather service said the danger of fire continued on Sunday in about the western three-fourths of the state.

  The director of an animal shelter in Texarkana says two of the six pit bulls stolen from the shelter earlier this week have been found and returned and a third stolen dog has been spotted.

Texarkana Animal Care and Adoption Center Director Connie Slater told the Texarkana Gazette two dogs were found Thursday and a third was seen in downtown Texarkana but has not been caught. Slater says one of the recovered dogs is being treated for a neck wound.
