Representative Tom Cotton opened his Senatorial campaign headquarters in Little Rock Saturday in the presence of about 75 supporters and onlookers.

Ryan Saylor with Talk Business Arkansas covered the opening as the Republican challenger to Mark Pryor laid out his case to Arkansans.

“Do we send a new conservative leader to Washington D.C. from Arkansas who will be there to represent our conservative views and our conservative values?” asked Cotton.

Lung Cancer On The Decline In Arkansas

Studies by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released Thursday show the rate of lung cancer is in decline around the nation. The same is true in Arkansas. After a steady increase for a number of years, the state has seen a sharp decline in lung cancer from around 84 cases per 100,000 people in 2007 to 70 cases per 100,000, according to Dr. Gary Wheeler of the Arkansas Department of Health. Though he says the state struggled for many years to prevent a rise in lung cancer.

Asa Hutchinson Raises $445,000 For Arkansas Governor Bid

Former U.S. Rep. Asa Hutchinson's campaign says he raised more than $445,000 in the last three months of 2013 in his bid for the Republican gubernatorial nomination.

Hutchinson's campaign on Friday announced that he ended 2013 with more than $1.3 million in the bank as he seeks the state's top office. Wednesday is the deadline for candidates to file their fundraising reports for the quarter that ended Dec. 31.

Man Convicted In Arkansas Family's Death Gets Hearing

A hearing has been scheduled for an Oklahoma man on federal death row for the 1996 slaying of an Arkansas family as part of a conspiracy to create a whites-only nation in the Pacific Northwest.

Danny Lee of Yukon, Okla., was convicted of murder in aid of racketeering and was sentenced to death. His attorneys are challenging evidence presented during sentencing that suggested Lee was a psychopath and dangerous to others.

Prosecutors accused Lee and Chevie Kehoe of killing a Pope County gun dealer, his wife and 8-year-old daughter.

North Little Rock Apartment Complex Faces Discrimination Complaint

The National Fair Housing Alliance says it has found evidence that an apartment complex in North Little Rock discriminated against deaf rental applicants. The organization filed a complaint Thursday with the Department of Housing and Urban Development based on findings from a months-long investigation.

With pressure mounting for Arkansas Lt. Gov. Mark Darr to resign or be removed from office over ethics violations, fellow Republicans are now wrestling with the political consequences of a prolonged impeachment fight during an election year.

Several GOP lawmakers said Thursday they're still holding out hope the lieutenant governor will reconsider his plans to stay in office, and said they're worried that questions about the Republican official's future will overshadow next month's legislative session.

And They're Off: Racing Season at Oaklawn and Wagering Statewide to Begin

The live horse racing season is set to begin at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs Friday and there are some significant changes to wagering options.

A new program will allow bets to be placed from anywhere in Arkansas on electronic devices like phones and computers for local, national and international races.

Despite some concerns, Media Relations Manager Jennifer Hoyt said she doesn’t expect betting from home or on the go to impact attendance or revenue for local businesses.

Arkansas High Court Told Death Row Inmate Incompetent

A lawyer for a condemned inmate convicted of a Crawford County killing told the Arkansas Supreme Court that Rickey Dale Newman was "functionally incompetent" to understand his capital murder charge and participate his defense.

Attorney Julie Brain told the court Thursday that Newman has an IQ of 67 and that he couldn't meet the standard of "rationally" assisting in his defense. She says the trial judge was wrong to have ruled him competent.

Death Sentence Upheld In Killing of Arkansas Police Officer

The Arkansas Supreme Court has upheld the murder conviction for a man sentenced to death for fatally shooting a police officer during a traffic stop in northeast Arkansas.

The court on Thursday rejected a request for a new trial and upheld the death sentence for Jerry Lard, who was convicted in the 2011 shooting death of Trumann police officer Jonathan Schmidt.

The court rejected several of Lard's arguments, including his objection to prosecutors showing jurors dash-cam videos of the shooting.
