Arkansas Consumers To Receive E-Books Settlement

Arkansas' attorney general says some consumers who purchased electronic books will begin receiving account credits or checks this week following a settlement with five of the nation's largest e-book publishers.

Attorney General Dustin McDaniel says about $1 million will be distributed through credits or direct payments to Arkansas consumers. McDaniel has issued a consumer alert to let eligible Arkansans know about the coming restitution.

Film On History Of Spring Training In Hot Springs

Officials in Hot Springs are marking the start of work by a documentary filmmaker who is to depict the history of spring training baseball in the Spa City.

Documentarian Larry Foley is to discuss the project at a Thursday event. The film is to show the city's role as a spring training site in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Starting in 1886 and into the 1940s, teams that included the Boston Red Sox, Cincinnati Reds, Brooklyn Dodgers and the New York Highlanders - later the New York Yankees - got ready for the season in Hot Springs.

Arkansas Lawmakers To Discuss 'Private Option'

Arkansas lawmakers are discussing the progress of the compromise on Medicaid expansion that they just reauthorized for another year.

The House and Senate public health committees were scheduled to meet Thursday to discuss the "private option" plan to use federal Medicaid funds to purchase private insurance for the poor. Approved last year as an alternative to expanding Medicaid under the federal health overhaul, the program was reauthorized by the Legislature during the session that ended earlier this month.

In Governor's Race, Ross Criticizes Hutchinson Over Impeachment Role

Democratic gubernatorial hopeful Mike Ross is criticizing Republican rival Asa Hutchinson for his role prosecuting the impeachment case against former President Clinton, saying it showed how partisan the former congressman is.

Ross told The Associated Press it's up to voters to decide whether impeachment will be an issue in the race for Arkansas' top office this year. He cited it as the difference between his service in Washington and Hutchinson's.

Ethics Complaint Dismissed Against Arkansas Securities Commissioner

Arkansas Securities Commissioner Heath Abshure has been cleared of any ethical violations after a complaint was filed by Little Rock-based investment firm Stephens Incorporated.

But now the company’s top lawyer says there ought to be a law against what the commissioner did.

Arkansas Business Editor Gwen Moritz has been following the ongoing allegations being fired back and forth between the Abshure and Stephens.

The broadcast also stars rising Mexican tenor Javier Camarena as Amina's fiance, Elvino, and Italian bass Michele Pertusi as Count Rodolfo, conducted by Marco Armiliato.

Hot Springs Housing Authority Raided By Fed Agents

The administrative offices of the Hot Springs Housing Authority have been raided by federal agents with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Office of Inspector General.

The Sentinel-Record reports that agents could be seen searching different offices, removing boxes and searching some vehicles in the parking lot.

Arkansas Advocates In DC To Push For Energy Help

Advocates from Entergy Arkansas are visiting with congressional leaders to urge increasing funding for an energy assistance program for the poor.

Advocates planned to visit Washington Wednesday to push for increased funding for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, which provides assistance for needs such as energy bills.

Entergy says cuts in funding for the federal program from $5.1 billion in 2009 to $3.4 billion have limited the level of assistance available for more than 340,000 qualifying households in Arkansas.

Hot Springs Attorney Wanted On Manslaughter Charge

A Hot Springs attorney whose relationship with Attorney General Dustin McDaniel led to McDaniel withdrawing from the race for governor is now charged with manslaughter.

Garland County authorities have issued arrest warrants for 36-year-old Andrea Davis and her brother - Matthew Davis - in the shooting death of Maxwell Anderson outside Andrea Davis' home in February 2012.

An attorney for the Davises told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette that he's made arrangements with the special prosecutor in the case for both Andrea and Matthew Davis to surrender sometime this week.

Panel Discussion Set To Mark Anniversary of Mayflower Oil Spill

A panel discussion is scheduled next week on the effects of the Mayflower oil spill one year after the pipeline rupture.

Monday's event at the Clinton School of Public Service will focus on the impact the spill had on the surrounding community in Arkansas and beyond and how chances of a similar incident can be minimized in the future.

ExxonMobil's Pegasus pipeline ruptured in Mayflower last March, spilling thousands of barrels of oil in the community about 30 miles northwest of Little Rock.
