Geoffrey Robson explores Brahms' Piano Concerto No. 2 in B Flat, Op. 83; Dvorak's Slavonic Dances, Op. 46/72; and, Dvorak's Scherzo capriccioso, Op. 66.

These works will be performed at the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra's Masterworks concerts Saturday, January 25 at 8 p.m., and Sunday, January 26 at 3 p.m.

A group is collecting signatures to get a proposal on the ballot asking voters to legalize alcohol sales in Columbia County.

Vote for Growth in Columbia County announced Tuesday that it will work to get the measure on the ballot this year.

Committee chairman David Nelson says Columbia County outlawed alcohol sales in 1943 but that the issue hasn't come up for a vote in decades. 

Central Arkansas Development Council

The Central Arkansas Development Council is helping families pay their heating bills during this cold winter. 

The organization reaches out to low income households each year and assists with utility payments on a first come, first serve basis. 

Valerie Ramsey, program manager, says the aid is based on household size and regular income, but also offers a crisis mode.

Barge traffic is shut down on the Arkansas River in western Arkansas after damage was discovered on a railroad bridge.

Officials say two broken cables tilted the northern end of the bridge in between Fort Smith and Van Buren. Train crews discovered the dysfunctional rail late Monday when a northbound train was heading back from Fort Smith.

The cables are used to raise and lower the bridge.

Arkansas voters view the private option insurance plan more favorably than unfavorably, according to a new survey from Talk Business and Hendrix College.

UAMS Opens A New Sickle Cell Anemia Clinic

A new clinic for adults with sickle cell anemia is opening at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. 

The program will offer a 24/7 call center as well as provide yearly flu shots and things not always available in more rural areas.

Physician with the program, Dr. Robin Devan, says approximately 1,300 children and adults suffer from sickle cell in Arkansas, but treatment isn’t consistent.

The director of the Arkansas Department of Human Services says he doesn't have an alternative budget if lawmakers block funding for the state's "private option" version of Medicaid expansion in the February fiscal session.

The Arkansas Veterans Commission has recommended that the state's new veterans' home be built in North Little Rock.

The commission's vote Tuesday is not binding, and the final decision will be made by Department of Veterans Affairs Director Cissy Rucker.

The commission reviewed 20 site proposals from around the state before narrowing the list down to four - two in Jacksonville and one each in North Little Rock and Searcy.

Arkansas Foresty Commission Issues Burn Ban Alerts

The Arkansas Forestry Commission has issued burn bans for 19 counties, and the entire state is at moderate risk of wildfires.

Pulaski, Faulkner, Garland, and Van Buren are among those under the ban, after more than 500 acres burned in Arkansas over the holiday weekend

"Even if folks are not under burn bans, it is a really bad time to be burning because of the low humidity and high wind," says Adriane Barnes, with the Forestry Commission."

She says the dead trees and plants leftover from the winter storms are fuel to potential fires.
