Little Rock Officials Unveil ‘Creative Corridor’ Logo

Little Rock city officials on Tuesday unveiled a logo and social media sites for the fast-growing Main Street Creative Corridor, part of an official master plan to transform the downtown area into an urban mixed-use, cultural and arts enclave.

City officials said the logo was selected by art groups who will eventually relocate to Main Street, in collaboration with representatives from the city. The new logo will be used on all promotional materials for the Creative Corridor.

The chance for normalized commercial relations with Cuba are expected to create opportunities for Arkansas farmers, an official with Riceland Foods told a U.S. Senate committee Tuesday.

Terry Harris, the senior vice president of marketing and risk management for the Stuttgart-based cooperative, told Sen. John Boozman, R-Ark., and other members of the Senate Agriculture Committee during a hearing on opportunities and challenges for agriculture trade with Cuba.

The unemployment rate in Arkansas remained flat at 5.6 percent in March according to information released Tuesday by the state Department of Workforce Services. The rate is the same as a revised jobless rate for February.

Spokeswoman Becky Heflin said it’s not unusual to have unemployment numbers hold steady.

The attorney for a Delaware man accused in a 1967 Arkansas killing says his client is being held illegally as he fights extradition.

In court papers filed this week, the public defender for James Leon Clay of Georgetown says Clay was arrested on March 10 and has been incarcerated beyond the permitted 30 days, with no extension sought by or granted to state authorities.

Dexter Suggs Little Rock Schools

With questions over accusations he plagiarized work for his doctoral degree, Dexter Suggs resigned  as interim superintendent of the Little Rock School District Tuesday morning, according to the Arkansas Department of Education.

A press release said Education Commissioner Johnny Key reached an agreement with Suggs for his immediate resignation.

Legislators reviewing the state’s Medicaid program and healthcare system were told Monday by Arkansas health officials, researchers at the Bureau of Legislative Research, and hospital representatives that the cost to hospitals and clinics of uncompensated care is in decline thanks in-part to reforms enabled by the Affordable Care Act.

Little Rock School District Interim Superintendent Dr. Dexter Suggs had planned to hold a town hall meeting Monday at Central High School but canceled it over the weekend.

The fixed base operator at Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport in Little Rock have announced plans for a new terminal as part of an $11 million expansion project at the airport.

TAC Air said Monday in a news release that the new executive terminal will include a conference room, pilot lounge, flight-planning area, passenger waiting, theater room, outdoor patio and pilot rest areas.

The new facility will be located next to the north terminal at the airport, which will be demolished after construction is completed to make room for additional hangar space.
