Engine Trouble Prompts Emergency Landing In LR

(AP) - Officials say no one was injured when an American Airlines flight en route from North Carolina to Dallas made an emergency landing in Little Rock because of engine trouble.

Officials say the American Airlines MD-80 was en route to Dallas from Charlotte Sunday when one of the engines went out and the pilot decided to land in Little Rock.

Shane Carter, a spokesman for the Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport in Little Rock, says emergency crews were on hand but the plane landed safely.

Harrison Mulls Paying For Online Reputation Rehab

The north Arkansas town of Harrison has long been associated with the Ku Klux Klan, creating an image that city leaders say is just not true.

News articles about Harrison’s inglorious past and proximity to the home of national Knights of the K-K-K Director Thom Robb trend toward the top of internet searches of information about the Boone County town.

Robb lives in nearby Zinc Arkansas but for years used a Harrison post office box.

Lt. Gov. Darr Reports Campaign Errors To Ethics Panel

Arkansas Lt. Gov. Mark Darr has filed an ethics complaint against himself over several errors he said he made in reporting how his campaign spent money shortly after he took office in 2011.

Darr on Friday reported several errors on the forms his campaign filed as it was raising money to repay the money he had loaned it for his successful 2010 bid.

Darr said in a statement that he's amending his fundraising reports after he took office in 2011 to reclassify fundraising expenses as debt reduction payments.

Inmate Who Escaped From Arkansas Jail Captured In Florida

Authorities say an inmate who escaped from a central Arkansas jail last month has been recaptured in the Florida Panhandle.

The Garland County Sheriff's Office said Friday that Derrick Estell was in custody in Florida.

Sheriff's Deputy Scott Hinojosa says Estell had escaped the agency's custody on July 28 with help from Tamara Upshaw and others after returning from the Arkansas Department of Correction for a court appearance.

FBI Continues Investigation, Offers Reward in Case of Cut Power Line

The FBI is now offering a reward of $20,000 for information leading the person responsible for intentionally bringing down a power line in Cabot.

The line, located on Arkansas Highway 321, was reported Wednesday afternoon by Entergy officials. The subsequent investigation revealed the line was purposely severed with a saw or similar tool. Bolts for the 100-foot tower that held the line were also removed.

Same-Sex Couples Want To Drop Governor, AG In Suit

Lawyers for a group of same-sex couples seeking to overturn Arkansas' ban on gay marriage want to drop the state's governor and attorney general from a lawsuit. 

Attorneys for the couples filed a notice of dismissal Thursday in Pulaski County Circuit Court. That notice says the plaintiffs dismiss Gov. Mike Beebe and Attorney General Dustin McDaniel from the lawsuit. They're asking the court to issue an order making it official.

Judge Won't Step Down in Arkansas Police Shooting Case

A judge says he won't step down from a case involving a former Little Rock police officer accused of killing a teenager.

Judge Wendell Griffen issued an order on Thursday denying a number of motions, including one to disqualify him in the case of former Little Rock police officer Josh Hastings.

Hastings' attorney, Bill James, filed a motion on Monday seeking to disqualify Griffen.

James said Griffen has been outspoken against Little Rock police officers and their use of firearms on minorities, and James says that's the issue in Hastings' case.

Arkansas Lieutenant Governor Mark Darr says he made errors on campaign finance reports that are now being questioned by a political website.

In a series of reports this week, the Democrat-leaning Blue Hog Report says Darr's campaign reports listed expenses like four season tickets to Arkansas Razorback games, expensive dinners and charges at convenience stores as fundraisers.

Arkansas Moves to Prevent Disease in Same Family as Mad Cow from Entering State

Actions are being taken by the Game and Fish Commission to stop Chronic Wasting Disease, in the same family of diseases as Mad Cow, from infecting the state’s deer and elk populations. Cases in northwestern Missouri are the closest to Arkansas.

New steps ban the transportation of live cervids and carcasses hunted in all other states. This adds to a 2003 law which only prevented importation from states with known cases.

Corey Gray, the Deer Program Coordinator with Game and Fish said Arkansas is being proactive.

Saline County To Begin Warrant Amnesty Program

The Saline County Sheriff’s Department is beginning an arrest warrant amnesty program Monday.

Anyone who has a non-violent, misdemeanor warrant in the county will be given a chance to turn themselves in and take care of the warrant without serving time in jail.

Lieutenant Scott Courtney says it’s offered as a service to people who have warrants to get them in to court and back into the system.
