Court Upholds Newport Man's Murder Conviction

The Arkansas Supreme Court has upheld the murder conviction of a Newport man in the death of his 23-month-old son.

The Jonesboro Sun reported Monday that the court rejected a claim by 25-year-old Richard Ingram that a juror was removed from the case without justification.

The state Supreme Court instead found there was "a clear justification" for removal because the juror violated the judge's order not to speak with any of the attorneys,

Voters To Choose Nominees For Northeast Arkansas Senate Seat

Voters in northeast Arkansas are choosing the Democratic and Republican nominees for a special election to replace a state senator who resigned amid an ethics investigation.

The primary runoff Tuesday will determine who will face off in the Jan. 14 special election to replace former Sen. Paul Bookout, who resigned in August.

Election Day To Decide Alcohol Sales In NLR's Park Hill

Residents of a North Little Rock neighborhood go to the polls Tuesday to decide whether to allow the sale of alcohol.

The Park Hill neighborhood has been dry since 1966, but business leaders believe allowing the sale of alcohol could revive the area and bring restaurants to the stretch of John F. Kennedy Boulevard, between I-40 and McCain Boulevard.

220 people took part in early voting last week, election officials report.

Veterans And Families Gather At Arkansas Memorial Events

People who served in the military are being honored at Veterans Day events around Arkansas.

In Little Rock on Monday, Gov. Mike Beebe singled out Vietnam veterans, who in some cases drew a hostile response upon their return from the war.

The governor said it's important to give Vietnam-era veterans the honors they didn't receive when they got home.

In the invocation, Chaplain Jack Ryan noted veterans are beset by problems ranging from traumatic stress to survivors' guilt.

Contemporary Artists To Show At Crystal Bridges

In marking the second anniversary of its opening, Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art is announcing a major exhibition of contemporary artists that will open late next year.

The museum in Bentonville announced Monday that the show, called "State of the Art," will open Sept. 13 and run through Jan. 5., 2015.

Crystal Bridges curators have visited more than 400 artists' studios to select pieces for the exhibition, which will feature works by more than 100 artists.

Freeze Warning Issued For Most Of Arkansas

Forecasters say chilly weather is headed to Arkansas early this week, but the cold isn't expected to stick around.

The National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning for much of Arkansas with a hard freeze warning in place for the northwestern counties.

Forecasters say the coldest temperatures of the season are expected, putting an end to the growing season for most areas.

Winter Weather Awareness Week In Arkansas

Governor Mike Beebe had proclaimed this week as Winter Weather Awareness Week across Arkansas.

The state Department of Emergency Management is encouraging residents to prepare themselves for wintry weather that can include snow and ice.

Bottled water and foods that don't need to be heated or refrigerated should be kept in homes. Automobiles should be winterized and residents are advised to put in their vehicles items such as blankets, flash lights, water, food and a first aid kit.

Testing To Close Lanes On I-40/I-430 In Metro Little Rock

The Arkansas highway department says there are lane closures coming on Interstates 40 and 430 in the Little Rock metropolitan area.

Crews are preparing for the next phase of a construction project to widen I-40 between Conway and North Little Rock. The work was to have been done last week but was postponed by rainy weather.

The northbound inside lane of I-430 near the I-40 interchange will be closed on Monday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Veterans Day Activities in Central Arkansas

There are a number of events being hosted Monday in Central Arkansas in observance of Veterans Day.

Those wishing to publicly acknowledge the service of veterans have a range of of activities choose from starting at 11 a.m. Governor Mike Beebe will be speaking in Little Rock's River Market district in conjunction with the 106th Army Band. At the same time in Cabot Representative Rick Crawford will be at an American Legion sponsored ceremony.
