Tomatoes Scarce For Arkansas Pink Tomato Festival

The annual Bradley County Pink Tomato Festival is about to start and officials are concerned about a potential lack of tomatoes.

The festival began with the Grand Tomato Ball on Friday with the main attractions of food, music and arts and crafts scheduled for June 13-15 in the southeastern Arkansas town.

But organizers say the main attraction - tomatoes - are scarce and smaller than usual.

Man Wounded By Officer In Shooting At Lono

Hot Spring County authorities say a man is hospitalized in stable condition after being shot by a deputy sheriff.

Authorities told KATV that the deputy was one of several officers investigating reports of a man with a gun outside a small store in Lono about 1:15 a.m. Sunday. Investigators say the man raised a weapon toward one of the deputies and was shot by another deputy.

The man was flown to a Hot Springs hospital where he was listed in stable condition Sunday. The names of the deputy and the man have not been released.

Amy Garland Plays New Songs Live On Not Necessarily Nashville

In advance of a CD release party later that evening, Amy Garland joined Flap Jones live on Not Necessarily Nashville to play a few songs and talk about her music.  Also joining Amy at KUAR to play guitar was Nick Devlin .

The new CD Hang A Light came out this month, and its release was marked with a performance at the Whitewater Tavern in Little Rock.

Late-Night Painting Will Close I-430, I-630 Ramps

Highway crews will close a pair of ramps at a busy intersection in west Little Rock that is undergoing major changes.

Ramps from northbound Interstate 430 onto Financial Center Parkway and Chenal Parkway will close overnight beginning Sunday night. Overnight closures will be in place until Friday morning.

At the same time, the ramp from eastbound I-630 onto northbound I-430 will be closed.

Workers are painting new flyover bridges being added to the Big Rock Interchange.

Traffic will be diverted to the Shackleford Road exit just south of the construction zone.

Lawyer Nominated For Judge Job In Western Arkansas

A Fayetteville lawyer has been nominated for U.S. district judge for the Western District of Arkansas.

Sen. Mark Pryor said Friday that President Barack Obama nominated Timothy Brooks for the position.

Pryor's office says Brooks is a partner with Taylor Law Partners, LLP in Fayetteville. Brooks has spent his entire 24-year legal career with the firm, becoming a partner in 1993.

Michigan Governor To Speak At Arkansas Dems Dinner

Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm will be the guest speaker for the Arkansas Democratic Party's annual Jefferson-Jackson Dinner this month.

The state Democratic Party announced Friday that Granholm will speak at the June 15 event.

The dinner will be at the Statehouse Convention Center in downtown Little Rock.

Lawmakers, church leaders, family, and friends packed the 2nd floor of the MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History to remember and honor Governor Sid McMath.

Medical Board Cites Doctor for Prescriptions

The Arkansas Medical Board on Thursday reprimanded Dr. Lee Nayles after he told the panel the prescriptions were written by a physician assistant who no longer works for him.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports board members found that Nayles was responsible because the physician assistant was supervised by Nayles.

Nayles' contract as medical director at the Little Rock Veterans Home wasn't renewed last year after inspections found patient care violations.

Woman Fights Off Abduction Attempt Outside Mall

Police in Jonesboro say a woman fought off an attempt to kidnap her in a mall parking lot and that a suspect has been arrested.

Sgt. Lyle Waterworth told reporters that the 29-year-old woman was returning to her car behind the mall on Thursday when a man grabbed her and tried to force her into a van. Waterworth says the woman broke free from the man and ran - but he caught her before she was able to escape a second time and run back into The Mall at Turtle Creek.

Armed Man Robs Little Rock Grocery Store

Authorities in central Arkansas are looking for a man armed with a revolver who robbed a Kroger grocery store.
