Search For Arkansas Forestry Pilot To Resume

After another day of foul weather slowing the search for a missing Arkansas Forestry Commission pilot and aircraft, search crews were planning to resume the effort.

Numerous agencies have combined efforts to try to find Jake Harrell, who has been missing since Friday afternoon.

Teams are searching from the air and on foot through rugged wilderness in western Arkansas.

Crews on Wednesday are to focus on the area around Oden, which is closest to Harrell's last known communication.

Entergy Arkansas Reports 38K Outages From Storm

Tens of thousands of homes and businesses remain without electricity after wintry weather hit Arkansas.

Entergy Arkansas says about 38,000 customers were without power Wednesday morning. Garland County had the highest number of outages at more than 5,800. Crittenden County reported more than 4,100 outages and Conway County had about 3,300 outages. Cross County reported more than 3,100 outages.

Outages of more than 2,000 customers were reported in Mississippi, Montgomery and St. Francis counties.

Farm Bill Passes In U.S. Senate With Support From Pryor & Boozman

Arkansas’s two U.S. Senators are praising Tuesday’s passage of a five-year farm bill, which now heads to President Obama for his signature.

The vote in the chamber came after extensive negotiations, with much of the debate focusing on the inclusion of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program in the $ 1 trillion bill.

Speaking on the Senate floor, Democrat Mark Pryor said it will be vital for the agriculture industry.

Arkansas Officials: No Limit On Halting Private Option

Arkansas Human Services officials say the federal government can't prevent the state from ending a compromise Medicaid expansion plan that was approved last year and now is at risk of being defunded by the Legislature.

DHS officials told lawmakers on Tuesday that there's no time restriction for the state to end the "private option" that was approved last year as an alternative to expanding Medicaid under the federal health care law.

Outages Top 40,000 In Arkansas Ice Storm

Freezing rain and other wintery precipitation moving across Arkansas has brought hazardous road conditions, tens of thousands of power outages and numerous school closures.

Electric outages topped 40,000 Tuesday afternoon, as the last of a winter storm system dragged its tendrils across the state. Entergy Arkansas reported 36,765 customers without power and First Electric Cooperative had 3,237 customers in the dark.

Arkansas Revenue Above Forecast, Below Last Year

Arkansas finance officials say the state's revenue came in below last year's figures but slightly above forecast in January, despite sales tax collections missing their target.

The Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration said Tuesday that the state's net available revenue in January totaled $483.6 million. That's $32.5 million below last year and $7.4 million above forecast.

Arkansas Lawmakers To Discuss Private Option Ahead Of Session

Arkansas lawmakers are scheduled to discuss whether the federal waiver for the state's compromise Medicaid expansion conflicts with the state law that paved the way the measure last year.

The House and Senate Public Health, Welfare and Labor committees on Tuesday are scheduled to discuss the state's "private option" Medicaid expansion with officials from the state Department of Human Services.

Search Resumes In Western Arkansas For Missing Pilot

The search has resumed for a missing Arkansas Forestry Commission pilot and airplane that lost contact with the commission Friday afternoon.

The commission says crews are searching parts of the Ouachita National Forest in western Arkansas for missing pilot Jake Harrell. The 34-year-old pilot is also a North Little Rock police officer and member of the Arkansas National Guard.

The search began Friday afternoon when Harrell failed to communicate as scheduled with the commission while surveying the area for possible wildfires.
