Four Arkansas Airports Chosen For Federal Funding To Cover Upgrades

Little Rock's Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport is one of the four being awarded money for upgrades.

Four Arkansas airports will share in more than $3.1 million in funding being awarded by the Federal Aviation Administration for facility upgrades and expansion projects.

U.S. Sens. Mark Pryor and John Boozman and Reps. Tim Griffin and Steve Womack announced the funding on Friday.

Storms Down Trees, Power Lines In Central Arkansas

Storms with strong winds and heavy rain moving across Arkansas have downed trees and power lines and caused some damage in central Arkansas.

Warning coordination meteorologist John Robinson with the National Weather Service in Little Rock says winds of 60 miles per hour have been reported with the Friday afternoon storms. He says there are reports of windows blown out of buildings in Sherwood and roof damage to a building in Little Rock.

Downtown Revitalization On Minds Of Hot Springs Ralliers

On the one hundredth day since Hot Springs’ historic Majestic Hotel went up in a fiery blaze, citizens of the Spa City plan to hold a rally supporting the preservation of other downtown buildings and new revitalization efforts. It's set for Saturday afternoon.

The rally comes shortly after the Hot Springs Downtown Game Plan Task Force presented recommendations to the city on Wednesday asking for new preservation and economic development policies.

More Presidential Papers From Bill Clinton's Time In Office Being Released

The National Archives and the Clinton Presidential Library in Little Rock are releasing 2,000 pages of documents from former President Bill Clinton's administration on Friday. 

They're also unsealing records related to Vice President Al Gore's 2000 campaign, the Clinton White House's handling of gays serving in the military and the Supreme Court nominations of Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Stephen Breyer.

Our House Expands Services With Opening Of New Children's Center

Our House, an organization in central Arkansas that helps the homeless with housing, job training, and youth programs, is celebrating the opening of its new Children's Center. 

Staff there say the new center will allow the organization to serve three times the number of children currently in its programs.

With a grand opening celebration set for Saturday and more than 525 people on the RSVP list, the staff at Our House is enthusiastic about the Children's Center that's been a year in the making.

Arkansas Highway Officials Want More Road Workers

Arkansas highway officials say they want to divert additional funds to its maintenance operations so they can respond more quickly to severe winter weather.

Scott Bennett, the head of the Arkansas Department of Highways and Transportation, says the agency needs to respond to problems that popped up after a March ice storm. Motorists in eastern and northeastern Arkansas were stranded for hours after crews were unable to clear the highways.

Former Nordex Plant To Become Railcar Repair Site

A railcar maintenance company is to locate in the former Nordex USA wind turbine plant in Jonesboro and pledges to hire up to 350 employees.

TrinityRail Maintenance Services Inc. announced Thursday that it would expand the facility to accommodate its planned scope of work.

TrinityRail is a subsidiary of Trinity Industries Inc. of Dallas. The company provides an array of industrial products, including railcars, barges, storage containers and other transportation-related goods and services.

Two Dead In Northeast Arkansas As Powerful Storms Move Through

Two people were killed by falling trees in northeast Arkansas as a powerful storm system tore through the region and knocked over trees and utility lines.

Arkansas Department of Emergency Management spokesman Brandon Morris said one man died when a tree fell on a van in the Lawrence County town of Black Rock on Thursday. In Jonesboro, Craighead County Coroner Toby Emerson said a man died in his home when a tree fell on the structure. Names of the dead weren't released, pending relatives being notified.

Central Arkansas Police Departments Launch Apps To Keep Citizens Updated

Three police departments in central Arkansas are announcing the launch of mobile applications that citizens can download to fight crime in their communities and stay up-to-date on the latest notifications from law enforcement.

The Jacksonville, North Little Rock, and Benton Police Departments are each releasing their own app that they say will help them quickly relay pertinent crime reports and notifications of hazardous situations.
