Jeff Bridges, Arkansas Governor Plan Panel Discussion

Actor Jeff Bridges is scheduled to visit Little Rock to promote an effort aimed at reducing childhood hunger.

The No Kid Hungry campaign is trying to increase participation in programs that provide meals for children at their schools. The campaign is a part of the national, non-profit group Share Our Strength.

Bridges is scheduled to attend a school assembly Monday at Little Rock's Stephens Elementary School, followed by a panel discussion with Gov. Mike Beebe and Share Our Strength CEO Billy Shore.

Private Option Overshadows GOP Primaries In Arkansas

The fight over Arkansas' compromise Medicaid expansion may be over in the Legislature, but it's now spilling over into a number of Republican primaries this spring.

GOP candidates who supported the "private option" plan to use federal Medicaid funds to purchase private insurance for the poor are now facing friendly fire from within the party as they near the May 20 primary. The fight is spilling over into races that have nothing to do with the "private option" or health care, including the primaries for state treasurer and auditor.

Federal Judge Strikes Down Arkansas's 12-Week Abortion Ban

A federal judge has struck down Arkansas' attempt to ban most abortions beginning 12 weeks into a woman's pregnancy, saying viability, not a heartbeat, remains the key factor in determining whether abortions should be allowed.

U.S. District Judge Susan Webber Wright last year had stopped enforcement of the law.

The Republican-controlled Legislature passed it over Democratic Gov. Mike Beebe's objections.

Power Transmission Operator Breaks Ground For Little Rock Facility

A company that will manage operations of Entergy Arkansas’s power grid, broke ground on a new facility in Little Rock Friday. The Midcontinent Independent System Operator or MISO, is establishing a regional headquarters that it says will employ 50 people at average salaries of 85,000 dollars a year.

Local elected officials and company representatives gathered in the middle of a dusty construction site in West Little Rock to move dirt with golden shovels and give a ceremonial blessing to the arrival MISO’s new facility in Arkansas

The threat of wildfires is likely to increase in the coming weeks as temperatures rise and humidity decreases. Governor Mike Beebe noted in his weekly radio address Arkansas has experienced abnormally high amounts of wildfires recently.

Possibility of Snow Sunday in Arkansas

While temperatures have been warming up lately the threat of winter weather is possible again this Sunday. Meteorologist Jeff Hood with the National Weather Service said heavy rainfall is possible for much of the state Saturday followed by cooler temperatures.

New Clinton White House Records To Be Released

The National Archives is releasing another 4,000 pages of documents from former President Bill Clinton's White House, including records related to Vice President Al Gore's 2000 presidential campaign and the 2000 recount in Florida.

The Clinton Presidential Library is making a second trove of previously unreleased records available to the public Friday.

The records will cover a variety of topics, including the 1994 genocide in Rwanda, the 1996 Khobar (KOH'-bahr) Towers bombing and the transition to the Bush administration following the 2000 recount.
