Arkansas PSC Heralds Entergy's Exit From System Agreement

The Arkansas Public Service Commission is heralding Entergy Arkansas' plan to leave the multi-state agreement in which it has operated for decades.

The regulatory body on Tuesday noted that Entergy Arkansas will on Thursday no longer be networked with Entergy utilities in Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.

The PSC says the Entergy system agreement has unnecessarily cost Arkansas ratepayers more than $4.5 billion to, among other things, help pay for the Grand Gulf nuclear power plant.

Second Largest Payout Ever Could Be Big for Arkansas Lottery Commission Revenue

The Arkansas Lottery is taking part in the second largest Mega Millions jackpot ever in the nation, involving over 40 states. Tuesday's drawing is for $636 million.

State Lottery Director Bishop Woosley said big jackpots usually meana  spike in revenue so this jackpot could help the Lottery Commission catch up to their revenue goals.

Mountain Home Company Expanding, Hiring 50 New Workers

A Mountain Home company that makes laboratory work surfaces says it plans to expand its operation and hire an additional 50 workers.

Epoxyn Products said Tuesday that the company is investing $5 million in the expansion so it can serve customers around the world.

Epoxyn, whose parent company is De Pere, Wisc.-based Hamilton Scientific, produces resins for work surfaces that are used in schools and health-care laboratories.

Gov. Mike Beebe was on hand for the announcement and said the expansion shows Baxter County has a strong workforce.

Murder Suspect, Whose Case Prompted Changes To Parole System, To Change Attorneys

A Pulaski County judge is reluctantly allowing an eight-time parole absconder who is charged with murder in Little Rock to be given new public defenders, but declined the man's request to represent himself.

Darrell Dennis is charged in the May 10 kidnapping, robbery and shooting death of 18-year-old Forrest Abrams. Dennis was free at the time despite multiple felony charges and parole violations.

Longtime Prosecutor In North Arkansas Announces He Won't Run Again

Prosecutor Chris Raff

The longest-serving prosecutor in Arkansas history says he won't seek re-election next year.

Chris Raff has served nearly 32 years as prosecuting attorney for the 17th Judicial District, which covers White and Prairie counties.

The 62-year-old prosecutor tells The Daily Citizen that the timing is right to end his tenure in office.

Raff says his term will end Dec. 31, 2014. He says he has no plans to seek another political position.

Raff was first elected prosecuting attorney in 1982. Since then, he's been elected to the post 12 more times.

Delta Regional Authority Puts $150K Into Eastern Arkansas

The Delta Regional Authority is making a $150,000 investment in a sustainable agriculture program in eastern Arkansas.

The group is planning a Wednesday event in Forrest City to mark the start of the funding.

Officials say the money will help East Arkansas Enterprise Community Inc. to work with Arkansas Delta Seeds of Change to assist 100 farmers in the region. The program will assist farmers and entrepreneurs through job training, financial planning, access to equipment and product marketing.

Arkansas Highway Officials Accept Bids On Two Projects

Arkansas State Highway commissioners have accepted two bids that total nearly $3 million for road improvements in Pulaski County.

The commission met Monday in Little Rock and approved a $2.2 million bid from Redstone Construction Group, Inc. of Little Rock to widen Scott Hamilton Drive between Interstate 30 and Baseline Road in southwest Little Rock.

Christmas Day, Wed., Dec. 25, from 3-6 p.m. KLRE's Matt Patton will air Bach's Christmas Oratorio in its entirety. The work for choir and orchestra depicts the events of the Christian holiday and was intended for performance during the season.
