80 Million Tax Dollars Collected For Infrastructure Projects

The money collected from the operating and capital sales taxes that voters approved two years ago have generated millions of dollars in funds.

Over 80 million dollars has been collected and the citizens committee overseeing the spending assures it is being used appropriately. 

The Arkansas Democrat Gazette reports that over half of the money went to the city's general fund for projects including a new fire station and new police station. 

The remaining funds are being used for nearly 40 infrastructure projects and the resurfacing of streets in the capitol city.

Attorney General Dustin McDaniel has again rejected the wording of a proposed ballot measure that would legalize marijuana in Arkansas. McDaniel said Monday there were ambiguities in the wording of a proposed constitutional amendment submitted by Marjorie LeClair of Shirley.

Osborne Home Once Famous for Christmas Lights Deeded to Redfield

The Little Rock home once owned by drug researcher Jennings Osborne and known for its Christmas light display has been given to the city of Redfield, between Little Rock and Pine Bluff.

Kourosh Malek of Redfield signed the deed to the city on Monday. Redfield's Mayor Tony Lawhon said the city plans to sell the property - which has been appraised at more than $1.6 million. Malek bought the home for $291,500 at an auction held to help pay the Osborne family's debts, after Jennings death in 2011.

Federal Aid To Help Clean Up Winter Weather Damage

Governor Mike Beebe is seeking a federal disaster declaration that would make 15 Arkansas counties eligible for federal aid to help area recover from wintry weather earlier this month.  Beebe says he's seeking a major disaster declaration for Crawford, Franklin, Independence, Johnson, Logan, Madison, Marion, Montgomery, Newton, Polk, Scott, Searcy, Sebastian, Sharp, and Van Buren counties.

Amnesty Period for Misdemeaner Warrants, Overdue Fines in Little Rock

Little Rock District Criminal Court is running a temporary amnesty program for people with overdue fines and court costs, as well as failure to appear warrants. Natalie Short, a Senior Probation Officer, said the program is for non-violent offenders.

“These are misdemeanor cases that have already been adjudicated and already been fined out, or given some type of sentence. People have either fallen behind or not made payments as agreed,” said Short. She said the city believes this policy encourages people to come forward.

Little Rock's Airport Expects To See Decline In Passengers This Holiday Season

Passenger traffic at Little Rock’s Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport is expected to be down about five percent this holiday season compared to last year.

The Transportation Security Administration estimates 40,663 people will fly out of the airport between Friday and January 1.  The busiest day is expected to be Saturday, Dec. 21, when nearly 4,000 people will be departing.

"Traffic is already picking up," airport Spokesman Shane Carter said Friday, "but as we move through the next few days, of course Christmas will be busy for us."
