Gun Control Group Hits Senator Pryor With TV Ad

A group called “Mayors Against Illegal Guns” is out with a new TV ad today which steps up their criticism of Sen. Mark Pryor (D) for his vote against the failed Manchin-Toomey gun background check bill.

The latest ad features Angela Bradford-Barnes, who was the chief financial officer of the Democratic Party of Arkansas from 2007 to 2012 – a period when then-DPA chairman Bill Gwatney was killed in a random act of gun violence.

DHS Answering Insurance Inquiries, Sending Private Option Waiver To Feds

On the heels of last week’s legislative session where state lawmakers approved the “private option” health insurance plan, Arkansas Medicaid leaders are already working to move the proposal forward.

The new law, known as the Health Care Independence Act, outlines the framework for allowing Arkansas to use Medicaid expansion money from the federal government to subsidize health insurance for low-income workers in a forthcoming health insurance exchange.

Entergy Arkansas To Light 3 Downtown Little Rock Bridges

Three bridges spanning the Arkansas River across downtown Little Rock and North Little Rock will be illuminated by year’s end thanks to a $2.4 million gift from Entergy Arkansas and an assorted group of businesses and governmental entities.

The announcement was made Monday morning by Entergy Arkansas President Hugh McDonald and Little Rock Mayor Mark Stodola.

McDonald said the gift is part of a celebration of the electric company’s 100th anniversary in Arkansas.  ”This project is very much in line with what we do – light things up,” he said.

Mike Ross Resigns Job To Pursue ‘Public Service’

Former Congressman Mike Ross (D) dropped another huge clue that he plans to run for Arkansas Governor in 2014.

In an email sent Tuesday (April 2) to employees at Southwest Power Pool – where he took a Government Affairs post in January 2013 after ending his near decade in Congress – Ross said he was resigning his post.

“I wanted you to know that after much thought I have resigned as an officer and senior vice president at Southwest Power Pool to pursue another opportunity in public service,” he said.

Democratic Governor Candidate Bill Halter Rolls Out ‘Arkansas Promise’

Bill Halter, the only declared Democratic candidate for Arkansas Governor, previewed his first major policy plan of the 2014 campaign on Talk Business Arkansas Sunday night.

Halter will advocate for “The Arkansas Promise,” a college scholarship program that will provide full tuition for any Arkansas student who maintains a 2.5 grade point average and attends college in state. The scholarship match would equal tuition costs at the highest four-year public university in Arkansas.
