2015 Miss Arkansas To Promote Platform Of Self-Confidence

Newly-crowned Miss Arkansas Loren McDaniel says she'll promote a platform focusing on ending domestic violence and bullying as she travels the state.

McDaniel also says she plans to use the $20,000 in scholarship money she won to attend graduate school for a master's degree in fine arts and acting. She graduated from the University of Arkansas in May and was a theater major.

McDaniel won the crown Saturday night in Hot Springs from among 46 contestants. The Van Buren resident will represent Arkansas in the Miss America pageant. Contestants competed for more than $87,000 in scholarship money.

For the talent portion of the contest, McDaniel sang "A Piece of Sky," which was featured in the 1983 film Yentl. She says the song's lyrics fit her platform of self-confidence and resilience.
