With the impasse over the future of the state's hybrid Medicaid expansion resolved for now, Arkansas lawmakers this week are shifting their focus to the rest of the $5.3 billion budget for the coming year.
The House and Senate are set to reconvene Tuesday, days after Gov. Asa Hutchinson vetoed a provision of the Medicaid budget that set a Dec. 31 end date for the hybrid expansion. Supporters of the programs are expected to have more than enough votes to uphold his decision if an override is attempted, which would effectively keep the program alive for another year.
Legislative leaders say they hope to work quickly on dozens of other budget bills as they try to wrap up this year's legislative session over the next two weeks.
