Arkansas Man Sentenced To 15 Years For Attack On Power Grid

Jason Woodring

Federal prosecutors say a man who admitted an attack on part of the Arkansas power grid two years ago has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Jason Woodring of Jacksonville also must make $4.7 million restitution to Entergy Arkansas and $48,729 restitution to the First Electric Cooperative.

Investigators said in 2013 that someone tried to lasso a train with a cable attached to a high-voltage tower near Cabot. Later attacks targeted power poles and a substation.

Woodring pleaded guilty to four charges in March and prosecutors dropped four other accusations as part of a plea bargain with the 38-year-old defendant.

Woodring was arrested in October 2013 after an explosion beneath power lines near his home. Investigators said evidence at his home matched evidence found after one of the attacks.
