A Mayflower police officer has been fired after a prosecutor said he intentionally withheld evidence in a tornado relief profiteering case.
A police spokesman says officer Mark Winchester was fired Tuesday morning. Faulkner County Prosecutor Cody Hiland said he would no longer accept felony case submissions from Winchester.
Winchester arrested 33-year-old Melissa Brown in May for allegedly stealing disaster relief supplies after a deadly April tornado.
Hiland says no charges have been filed against Brown because no such supplies were found in her home. He says Winchester withheld that fact.
Hiland also says Winchester failed to disclose that his son had been in a relationship with Brown prior to the incident. Prosecutors are reviewing other cases worked on by Winchester.
