Democratic Senate hopeful Conner Eldridge says he supports efforts to prevent suspected terrorists from buying guns, as Republican Sen. John Boozman's campaign accused his challenger of politicizing the mass shooting in Orlando.
Eldridge joined Democrats' call for new gun legislation following the 15-hour filibuster led by Connecticut Sen. Chris Murphy that ended early Thursday in response to the shooting at a gay nightclub that killed 49 people.
Eldridge said he supports asking the FBI and the U.S. Justice Department to develop a system that would prevent suspected terrorists from buying guns. He stopped short of endorsing specific legislation to accomplish that goal.
Boozman's campaign accused Eldridge of playing politics with the shooting, a claim that the former federal prosecutor dismissed as ridiculous.
