Arkansas State Senator Taking Job With UA System

Sen. Johnny Key

A state lawmaker who had sought a job as the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville's lobbyist has taken a similar position with the university system.

The UA system announced Wednesday that state Sen. Johnny Key has been named the system's associate vice president for university relations. A spokesman said Key will be paid $130,000 in the new post. His start date was being negotiated but would follow the conclusion of his service in the state Senate.

Key is a Republican from Mountain Home and had decided against seeking re-election this fall after applying to be UA's vice chancellor for governmental relations.

The school announced Monday that it had hired Randy Massanelli, state director for U.S. Sen. Mark Pryor, for the job.
