Arraignment Date Set For Man Accused In Arkansas Cold Case

A Delaware man who was extradited to Arkansas over the weekend to face a murder charge will be held at the Jackson County Jail in Newport without bail.

Sixty-eight-year-old James Leon Clay of Georgetown, Delaware, is charged with first-degree murder in connection with the 1967 shooting death of 27-year-old James Ricks of North Little Rock.

Clay appeared in Newport District Court for a bail hearing on Monday after an eight-month extradition process. He is scheduled to be arraigned before Jackson County Circuit Judge Harold Erwin in Newport on Dec. 17.

Clay was arrested in March after authorities say he was recorded telling a former cellmate he killed Ricks. Court documents say that Clay admitted to the homicide when police arrested him, but he requested a lawyer and fought extradition.
