Bald Knob Police Chief Seeks 'Guns Prohibited' Signs

Glock 27 handgun

The Bald Knob police chief is encouraging local businesses to post "guns prohibited" signs to prevent residents from openly carrying weapons in public.

Police Chief Erek Balentine tells The Daily Citizen that he's not against people carrying guns, but believes that someone carrying a weapon into a store causes other customers to feel alarmed.

Richard Chambless was arrested for carrying a gun into a restaurant. He was found guilty Tuesday on charges of carrying a weapon and disorderly conduct.

He was ordered to pay a $240 fine for the disorderly conduct charge. On the weapon carrying charge, he was sentenced to 15 days in jail, plus one year of probation, and he also must pay a $2,160 fine.

Chambless' attorney says they will appeal the judge's decision.
