Unwanted or unusable electronics can be recycled Wednesday and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the parking lot of Verizon Arena in North Little Rock.

"The reason that we recycle electronics is to keep the lead and the mercury mainly out of the environment," says Carol Bevis with Regional Recycling, which is organizing the event.

"A lot of the older television sets and some of the computers have like five and six pounds of lead in it. We don’t want them just sitting around and corroding or being thrown out on the side of the road because then, eventually, it will get in our water system.”

Over 40 workers will be on hand both days to make the process as convenient as possible.

"We will be collecting shredders and printers and copiers and monitors, televisions, fax machines, microwaves; anything basically that has a computer chip in it, we will be able to collect," Bevis said.

Both businesses and individuals are encouraged to bring their electronics to the Fall Electronics Collection event. The service is free and Regional Recycling expects the process to be very quick for all involved.
