Authorities have identified the armed suspect who was shot and critically wounded by guards outside a sprawling military base in Arkansas, and say he has no ties to terrorism.

The FBI on Tuesday identified Larry McElroy as the man who drove his SUV over a curb at Little Rock Air Force Base on Monday, crashed into a street sign and began to exit his vehicle holding a rifle.

McElroy was shot by two guards. He remained in critical condition Tuesday.

The FBI said bomb squads did not find any explosives in McElroy's vehicle or home. The Pulaski County Sheriff's Office said it helped secure a property for the FBI to search in Jacksonville, the city that abuts the base, shortly after the shooting.

Public records show that a 43-year-old Larry D. McElroy Jr. lives at the same address.
