Finding: Arkansas Lieutenant Governor Mark Darr Misused $12,000 of Taxpayer Money
A meeting of the Legislative Joint Auditing Committee on Thursday found Republican Lieutenant Governor Mark Darr misused over $12,000 of tax payer money. The findings show Darr improperly spent over $9,000 on travel expenses and over $2,000 from his state credit card.
The committee's report noted that over $2,700 of those travel expenses were not properly documented so the staff was unable to substantiate their uses. Darr has pledged he will make full restitution but so far has only paid just over $1,200. Darr told the committee the violations were unintentional.
Earlier this year the blog, Blue Hog Report, examined Darr's campaign expenditures and alleged Darr violated state ethics rules by using that money for personal expenses. Those allegations were outside the scope of this particular audit but may be presented in an upcoming Ethics Commission meeting.
Darr remains in office.
