Arkansans hoping to obtain medical marijuana can now apply for a patient card on the state Department of Health’s website. Prospective patients and caregivers can search through a page that includes instructions and resources detailing requirements for the application process. To apply online, patients and caregivers will need to have an email address, a written certification from their physician, a state-issued ID.  Applicants must pay a nonrefundable $50 fee. People can also submit paper applications.

The ADH is requiring that patients to renew their cards annually. Renewals include the $50 fee.

The state’s Medical Marijuana Commission will also to begin accepting applications for dispensary and cultivation center licenses beginning Friday, June 30, through Monday, September 18. The commission plans to award five licenses for cultivation centers and 32 licenses for dispensaries. Up to five dispensaries will be allowed in each of eight geographical zones around the state. More on the licensing process here.

Last November, voters approved the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Amendment, which legalized possession of the drug by people who have certain qualifying medical conditions.
