GOP gubernatorial hopeful Asa Hutchinson received the endorsement of the National Federation of Independent Businesses on Tuesday. The group represents some small companies in the state.

Speaking from the Bush Room at the Holiday Inn Presidential Hotel in Little Rock, Hutchinson said tort reform is important to the NFIB and something he wants to pursue.

“As Governor tort reform would be back on the agenda with Asa Hutchinson as governor. It’s important to be able to have that partnership with business, to have a greater growth opportunity, and to make sure that we have reasonable tort reform here in the state of Arkansas,” said Hutchinson.

The former Congressman said enacting any reforms would take a number of years.

“The first thing you have to do is to pass a Constitutional amendment that gives the legislature once again the authority to enact tort reform,” said Hutchinson.

The business group also said a committee vote Ross cast, related to the Affordable Care Act, is a reason it supports Hutchinson.
