Inmate Who Escaped From Arkansas Jail Captured In Florida

Authorities say an inmate who escaped from a central Arkansas jail last month has been recaptured in the Florida Panhandle.

The Garland County Sheriff's Office said Friday that Derrick Estell was in custody in Florida.

Sheriff's Deputy Scott Hinojosa says Estell had escaped the agency's custody on July 28 with help from Tamara Upshaw and others after returning from the Arkansas Department of Correction for a court appearance.

Surveillance video showed Estell leaping through a small window in the lobby area, then sprinting across a parking lot when he was picked up someone in a waiting car.

Investigators in Arkansas say they learned of Estell and Upshaw's whereabouts and worked with authorities in Florida to have them recaptured.

Authorities say Upshaw is also in custody in Florida's Santa Rosa County.
