A lot of life happens in 16 years.
In 1996, a group of teenagers around the country were given tape recorders and asked to document their lives. The footage they collected for the groundbreaking Radio Diaries series 'Teenage Diaries' was so personal that it helped to pioneer a movement of first person narratives in the media.
In the 16 years since the series aired on NPR, many listeners have asked: where are those teenagers now?
This past May, NPR's All Things Considered aired Teenage Diaries Revisited, bringing listeners new stories from five of the original diarists about where life has led them.
Two of those diarists - Josh and Melissa - are reuniting for a live multimedia event at the Sixth & I Historic Synagogue in Washington, D.C. They will be joined on-stage by All Things Considered Host Melissa Block and Joe Richman, who pioneered the series, and will share their incredibly personal journeys: Josh, of coping with Tourette's Syndrome, and Melissa, of finding her footing as the teen mother to a son born with a life-threatening medical diagnosis.
