Mediation has failed in a defamation lawsuit filed by a fired Arkansas Treasurer's office employee against Treasurer Dennis Milligan and his Chief of Staff, Jim Harris.

Fired outreach manager David Singer filed the defamation lawsuit against Harris in Pulaski County Circuit Court and later added Milligan as a defendant.

Singer's attorney filed a request with the court late Monday notifying the judge that an attempt at mediation had failed and requesting the case move forward.

The lawsuit alleges, among other things, that Harris published false statements about Singer's mental health to co-workers and to members of the media. Singer was fired from his job in late April.

A spokesman for the attorney general's office, which represents Harris and Milligan, confirmed mediation had failed but said he could not comment further.
