Outgoing AG McDaniel Formally Announces Plans For New Law Firm

Former Arkansas Attorney General Dustin McDaniel

Nearly two weeks ago, Talk Business & Politics reported that Arkansas Attorney General Dustin McDaniel said he would start a law firm in Little Rock, Jonesboro and Washington, D.C. Wednesday McDaniel made the details known.

After he leaves office in January, McDaniel said he would start a private law firm with two of his top assistants. Senior Assistant Attorney General Scott Richardson and Assistant Attorney General Bart Calhoun will be partners in the law firm – McDaniel, Richardson & Calhoun, PLLC.

McDaniel says the Little Rock-based law firm will represent clients in practice areas such as business law, commercial litigation, regulatory compliance, bankruptcy and public policy advocacy as well as education and agriculture law. McDaniel’s firm will also practice personal injury and family law. The group plans to have additional offices in Jonesboro and Washington D.C.

"It has been a privilege to serve as attorney general and I look forward to many more years fighting for and protecting the rights of Arkansans," McDaniel said in a statement.

"I could not ask for a better team with which to start the next phase of my professional career. I have spent my entire career trying to make the system work better for people. My partners and I plan to continue that work for our clients, whether it’s in the regulatory environment or the courtroom."

Richardson led the Attorney General’s team in the Little Rock Desegregation case, and helped bring an end to the long-running Lake View public school funding litigation. Richardson has been with the Attorney General’s office since 2005, serving first as assistant attorney general and then in his current position as senior assistant attorney general.

Calhoun has focused on consumer protection, fighting deceptive trade practices and mediating disputes between consumers and along with representing the State in bankruptcy proceedings in numerous states. He has been with the Attorney General’s office since 2008, first serving as a special assistant to McDaniel, public affairs liaison and law clerk. He started in his current position as assistant attorney general in 2011.
