Police: Jonesboro Officer Fatally Shoots Man With Machete

A Jonesboro police officer has fatally shot a man who authorities say attacked the officer with a machete. Department spokesman Stephen McDaniel says officers were dispatched late Tuesday night to the 31-year-old man's Jonesboro home.

Police haven't released the suspect's name, but say he was wanted on felony charges. McDaniel says the suspect fled into his home and that the officer tried to follow. He says the officer tried to push open the front door before the suspect struck the officer's arm. The officer then fired several times at the suspect and retreated.

Officers found the man dead in the home Wednesday morning after a tactical team arrived. The officer's name hasn't been released and it's unclear if he was injured. The Arkansas State Police are assisting with the investigation.
