Police Say Knife-Wielding Man Klled By NE Arkansas Officer

Police say a man with a knife was shot and killed by a Manila police officer in northeast Arkansas.

Arkansas State Police say in a statement Wednesday that 41-year-old Timothy Johnson was shot when he moved toward the officer while holding the knife. The officer's name was not immediately released.

Johnson's body was sent to the State Crime Laboratory.

State police say the shooting occurred shortly after 8 p.m. Tuesday after the officer was sent to investigate a disturbance at home along State Highway 18 on the northwest side of the town.

State police are investigating the shooting at the request of Manila police.
