Pro-Confederate flag rally to take place in Russellville

A rally in support of the Confederate flag is being held in Russellville.

The Pope County Rebel Ride has been scheduled for Sunday on the Russellville side of the Dardanelle Lock and Dam in defense of what organizers say is Southern heritage.

One of the organizers, Tyler Titsworth, says the rally has no basis in racism and that protesters have been told that racial slurs or offensive language will not be tolerated. He said the rally has been organized as a food drive for the Main Street Mission, but the point is to show rebel pride.

The Confederate flag has come under scrutiny after nine black people were shot and killed in a Charleston, South Carolina, church last month.
