Prosecutors Say No Criminal Activity in UA Deficit Problems
Prosecutors in Washington County said they have found no evidence of criminal activity. Their finding comes in the wake of an investigation by the Arkansas Division of Legislative Audit that found four issues of concern.
The Division of Legislative Audit previously found a duplicate expense payment, an improper deposit, a treasurer that partially “obscured deficits,” and contradictory statements made under oath between former UA spokesman John Diamond and Chancellor David Gearhart pertaining to the shredding of documents.
According to the Arkansas Democrat Gazette, Deputy Prosecutor David Bercaw described the problems as an “unfortunate situation of a breakdown of internal control.”
