Vandals Cause $60,000 Damage To Walnut Ridge Airport

Authorities are investigating after at least two vandals caused $60,000 in damage to the Walnut Ridge Airport.

Airport manager Michelle Anthony says surveillance video captured the vandalism Saturday night. The video shows two ATVs entering airport property late Saturday. Over the course of an hour, the ATVs circled the runway, destroying at least nine runway lights and two signs.

Anthony tells The Jonesboro Sun that the runway will be out of service at night until the lights are fixed. Anthony says the lighting system was damaged earlier this year from a lightning strike and it had just been repaired.

She says the airport will begin repairs once they receive clearance from their insurance company.
