What You'll Hear On KUAR This Holiday Season
KUAR is scheduling special programming for the holiday week of December 23-27. We're adding music programs week nights beginning at 9 p.m. Selected Shorts also has a series of shows with a holiday theme, which will air Tuesday-Thursday at 10 p.m.
Christmas Day, Wed., Dec. 25 from 8 a.m.-1 p.m., KUAR will air a block of special programming for the holiday.
Mon., Dec. 23 from 9-11 p.m. A Journey Through the Nutcracker - Classical New England's James David Jacobs goes behind the scenes for Boston Ballet's The Nutcracker, uncovering the secrets of Tchaikovsky's masterpiece with conductor Jonathan McPhee, cast members, and the audience at the Boston Opera House. The story – and the music – unfolds as never before in this gripping narrative.
Tue., Dec. 24, 9-10 p.m. Tallis Scholars: Love is Better than Wine - For their 25th anniversary tour of the US, the globally-revered vocal ensemble, directed by Peter Phillips, presents a truly sublime holiday program in concert at St. Paul’s Church in Harvard Square. Presented by the Boston Early Music Festival and hosted by Cathy Fuller.

Thu., Dec. 26, 9-10 p.m. Glad Tidings of Great Joy - Travel the music of medieval England and Germany to baroque London and Leipzig with the music of Henry Purcell and Johann Sebastian Bach, from the glorious cathedral chant, Veni Emmanuel, to Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, this program offers some of the most splendid Christmas music ever to come from northern Europe. Two renowned musical institutions band together in this Early-Music tour de force: the Choir of Christ Church Cathedral Indianapolis, directed by Dr. Dana Marsh; and the Early Music Institute of the Jacobs School of Music, Indiana University, directed by Paul Elliott.

Fri., Dec. 27, 9-11 p.m. A Christmas Celtic Sojourn 2013 - Direct from the Cutler Majestic Theatre in Boston, a Celtic celebration of the season, with top-flight traditional singers and instrumentalists, and a story or two from host Brian O’Donovan.
Wed., Jan. 1, 9-10 p.m. A Season's Griot - This one-hour celebration in story and song is public radio's only nationally syndicated Kwanzaa program. Hosted for nearly 20 years by acclaimed storyteller Madafo Lloyd Wilson, this annual special captures the tales and traditions of African American and African peoples. This year’s program will celebrate Family with familiar and favorite elements of Griot, and plenty of music.
