Ahead of the annual "Beethoven and Blue Jeans" concert, we explore the German composer's Consecration of the House Overture. The piece contains all of the master's distinctive traits of his late mature style, mixing baroque sensibilities with a fiery and often bombastic symphonic style.

Mahler's 'Resurrection' Symphony

On this episode of At the Symphony, we preview Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 2 in C Minor. Known as the "Resurrection" Symphony, this expansive work represents something of a quest to discover the answers to the fundamental questions to life, the meaning and purpose of human existence and the problem of the afterlife. Lasting nearly and hour and a half, the work contains measures of tragedy, despair and exaltation.

The Arkansas Symphony Orchestra will perform the the on Saturday, February 25 and Sunday, February 26.

On this program we hear work from guest conductor and composer Martin Panteleev. The ASO will perform his composition, Archetype, for this final Masterworks concert held at the Maumelle Performing Arts Center. This will be performed along with Richard Wagner’s Siefried Idyll and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7.
