Arkansas Group Cleans Animals After Oil Spill

As cleanup efforts continue after the oil spill in Mayflower, Exxon is calling on various community groups for help.

Lynne Slater is the Executive Director of HAWK Center in Russellville. Her group is an all-volunteer organization with experience in wildlife rehabilitation. 

Slater says Exxon contacted her organization over the weekend to see if they could transport animals covered in oil to her facility for cleaning and monitoring.

Oil Spill Contained, Crews Focus On Cleanup

Over 100 workers and several vacuum trucks continue to clean up oil after a pipeline operated by ExxonMobil burst near Mayflower on Friday. The oil spill, which has been contained, caused officials in Faulkner County to evacuate 22 homes as lawns and streets in the Northwood subdivision became drenched in oil.

Cause Of Exxon Oil Spill In Arkansas Under Investigation

Authorities are investigating what caused an Exxon Mobil pipeline to rupture in Mayflower, Ark., Friday. The oil spill caused 22 homes to be evacuated, according to an Exxon statement.

Faulkner Co. Judge: "It Could Have Been Worse"

Faulkner County Judge Allen Dodson says Friday's rupture of an oil company pipeline in a residential area of Mayflower near Lake Conway could have been much worse than it was.

Workers have stopped the flow of oil out of the pipeline in the North Woods subdivision of Mayflower, and Dodson says he believes the leaked crude is mostly contained. No one was injured, though about 50 homes had to be evacuated.

Oil Spilling into Lake Conway, Neighborhood Evacuated

A crude oil pipeline ruptured this afternoon near Mayflower, causing oil to spill into Lake Conway.

Haz-Mat crews are on the scene near Mayflower in Faulkner County.

Brandon Morris with the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management says Exxon owns the pipeline.

Morris says the Haz-Mat crews are evaluating the situation, and will likely call on the Department of Environmental Quality to do an assessment of the lake and the surrounding area.

There’s no word yet on how much oil spilled or what caused the pipeline to burst.
