Rep. Griffin Ready To Ask Tough Questions Of IRS Official

Congressman Tim Griffin of Arkansas will be among lawmakers with key questions Friday for the top Internal Revenue Service official who resigned this week amid a scandal over heightened scrutiny of conservative groups.

Former acting Commissioner Steven Miller is to testify before the House Ways and Means Committee. Griffin, a Republican from Little Rock, is a member of the committee.

Arkansas Game and Fish Commission Leases Land

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission has signed a 99-year lease for nearly 19,000 acres on the Maumelle River Wildlife Management Area.

The commission signed the $1 million lease Thursday with Central Arkansas Water.

The lease includes 9,861 acres of terrestrial habitat and the 9,000 acre Lake Maumelle.

The area is known for its hunting, fishing, hiking and wildlife viewing opportunities.

Team Honored For Delisting Of Arkansas Snail

The Magazine Mountain shagreen, which was removed from the endangered list this week.

The team that helped remove an Arkansas snail from the federal endangered species list is being honored by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service as 2012 National Recovery Champions.

The Magazine Mountain shagreen was removed from the endangered list earlier this week after first being listed as threatened 1989.

The small snail is found only on Mount Magazine in western Arkansas.

Court Hearing Set for New Abortion Ban

A court hearing is set for Friday over a twelve week abortion ban passed earlier in the year by the Arkansas General Assembly. Without an injunction  the law could come into effect as early as August 15th.

The Arkansas chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union, representing two doctors from Little Rock Family Planning Services, is seeking a preliminary injunction from U.S. District Judge Susan Webber Wright.
