Arkansans Making Minimum Pay Get Increase

Minimum wage workers in Arkansas got an hourly pay increase on Wednesday. Workers earning the state level minimum wage will see an increase from $6.25 to $7.50 an hour. Employees earning federal minimum wage rates, $7.25 per hour will also see an increase.

Give Arkansas a Raise Now’s Steve Copely says the change has wide support and impacts a range of people.

"You know when people are working hard and they're trying to make ends meet and they just can't do that, every little bit helps and that's how we see it," he said.

The wage increase was approved by popular vote in the November election. Arkansas joins 20 other states increasing the minimum wage this year. The majority of states now have wages higher than the federal minimum rate of $7.25 an hour.
