Arkansas Governor Talks Successes Of Year Past And Focus In 2016

Governor Hutchinson's Office via YouTube

In his first radio address of the new year, Governor Asa Hutchinson talked about issues he thinks will be key in the coming year.

"As we head into 2016, topics such as health care, highway funding and criminal justice reform will take center stage. These are critical issues, but nothing is too big for our state," said Hutchinson.

He touted his efforts to strengthen the economy, noting one achievement has been in the area of computer science education.

In 2015, Arkansas became the first state to pass comprehensive legislation requiring public and charter high schools to offer computer science courses.

"As noted by Code.org and WIRED magazine, the state of Arkansas is now the national leader in computer science education," he said.

Hutchinson also says Arkansans will benefit from the largest income tax cut in state history, another measure he hopes will boost the economy. Meanwhile his critics say the cut will threaten some state services.
