Arkansas Police Fatally Shoot Man Who Officers Say Was Firing Gun

Zachary Sutton
Springdale Police

A man on a scooter who was fatally shot after reportedly firing a pistol at police in northwest Arkansas during a traffic stop has been identified as a 26-year-old from Springdale.

Police said Wednesday that Zachary Sutton died after being shot when Sgt. Josh Kirmer and Officer Roger Eubanks returned gunfire Tuesday night. Police say Sutton was taken to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Police said video from the officers' vehicle shows Sutton aiming and firing a handgun at Eubanks and Kirmer before they returned fire, but said the video will not yet be released.

A police spokesman did not immediately return a phone call to The Associated Press for comment.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office is investigating the shooting and the officers are on administrative leave.
