The Arkansas Public Service Commission is heralding Entergy Arkansas' plan to leave the multi-state agreement in which it has operated for decades.
The regulatory body on Tuesday noted that Entergy Arkansas will on Thursday no longer be networked with Entergy utilities in Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.
The PSC says the Entergy system agreement has unnecessarily cost Arkansas ratepayers more than $4.5 billion to, among other things, help pay for the Grand Gulf nuclear power plant.
Earlier in the year, the PSC cleared Entergy Arkansas to join the Mid Continent Independent System Operator network for electric distribution.
PSC Chairman Colette Honorable says the panel looks forward to regulating Entergy as it builds out its transmission system throughout the state.
Entergy Arkansas has nearly 700,000 customers across 63 Arkansas counties.
