A report for the month of August shows growth above expectations in Arkansas. Increased sales and individual tax collection revenue added to a $23.1 million rise over July of this year.
John Shelnutt, an economist with the Department of Finance and Revenue, said this year's numbers are above last year's for the month of August.
"In absolute dollar terms, net available revenue was $421.4 million in August. Gross revenue, which is collections, came in $23.2 million or 5.1 percent above forecast,” he said.
The state is nearly $35 million dollars above forecast so far this fiscal year.
According to Shelnutt, increases can be partly attributed to an improved economy. He said that trend is nationwide.
